I did ask around a little. Prices are not very cheap - in relation to what the locals earn. "Oceanview" lots in pretty remote areas will start at close to 100K. Inland it is much less expensive.

I have the impression that a lot of RE is owned by deep pocket American investors - who are willing to sit on their holdings and wait for the right buyers.
