BRILLIANT MINING CORP.: DRILLING INTERSECTS 4.5% NI OVER 30.5M AT THE NEWLY DISCOVERED DEACON ZONE; LANFRANCHI NICKEL MINE, KAMBALDA DISTRICT OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Brilliant Mining Corp.'s additional high-grade drill intersections from the recently discovered Deacon zone demonstrate the potential to add significant resource and mine life at the Lanfranchi nickel mine, Tramways Tenements, in the world-class Kambalda nickel district of Western Australia.
Key point summary:
best intersections at Deacon include 30.5 metres at 4.5 per cent nickel and 32.85 metres at 3.88 per cent nickel; two massive sulphide intersections returned high tenor nickel grades of 3.6 metres at 10.4 per cent nickel and 5.05 metres at 9.68 per cent nickel; Deacon zone has an estimated true thickness of up to 30 metres, is currently traced for 200 metres down plunge and is open to depth; and latest results provide further confidence that Deacon is a significant body of nickel mineralization, having the potential to dramatically increase the Lanfranchi mine resource base.
Exceptional drill results are being returned from the continuing resource delineation drill program undertaken at the newly discovered Deacon mineralized zone (see news issued in Stockwatch dated Oct. 10, 2006), proximal and to the west of the Helmut South orebody at the Lanfranchi nickel mine. The usage of a dedicated drill drive is allowing a substantial drill program to be conducted from an optimal orientation.
The drill program is designed to follow up broad zones of matrix and massive nickel sulphide intersected in holes HS212 and 215 (see news issued in Stockwatch dated Oct. 10, 2006), to define the extent and to provide a basis to perform a resource estimation on the mineralization. Drilling to date has been extremely positive with the best intersections at Deacon returning 30.5 metres (25.0 metres true thickness) at 4.5 per cent nickel and 32.85 metres (29.5 metres true thickness) at 3.88 per cent nickel. The Deacon zone has been traced continuously for 200 metres down plunge and is open at depth with a well-defined channel structure emerging as is evident in the 3-D image and cross-section.
In addition to the considerable thickness observed for the mineralized zone an impressive thickness and grade is encountered in the massive sulphide component as is highlighted by hole HS245 returning 5.05 metres (4.0 metres true thickness) at 9.68 per cent nickel. As displayed in the cross-section 513810mN two zones of high tenor massive sulphide have been intersected. The thickness and style of mineralization intersected at Deacon are similar to the better mineralized zones encountered at the Helmut South orebody and therefore provide further confidence that Deacon is a significant zone of mineralization which has the potential to dramatically increase the Lanfranchi mine's nickel resource inventory. The Deacon mineralization exists wholly outside of the current resources at the Lanfranchi mine and highlights the enormous exploration potential at Lanfranchi.
"Not only is the Deacon zone a significant new discovery with the potential to dramatically increase the nickel resource inventory at the Lanfranchi mine, it is located less than 50 metres from existing mine workings," states Brilliant president, Mike Sieb "That translates into low capital development costs with the ability to fast-track to the production stage to take advantage of current record nickel prices."
The assay results from the latest round of drilling on the Deacon are summarized in the table:

A preliminary resource definition drill program involving 16 drill holes (totalling 2,400 metres) on a 50-metre (down dip) by 25-metre (across strike) drill pattern to test Deacon between the 5,700 (minus-570 mRL) and 6,600 (minus-660 mRL) level was announced in Stockwatch on Dec. 6, 2006. Drilling is continuing and expected to extend through to the end of February, 2007. Given the close proximity of Deacon to the Helmut South orebody, once this drill program has been completed and assuming results continue to be positive, the Lanfranchi joint venture will move quickly to resource and reserve estimates with a view of developing this new body of mineralization as soon as it is operationally practical.
The project is supervised by John Williamson, PGeo, of Edmonton, Alta., chief executive officer and a director of Brilliant, and is the qualified person as defined in National Instrument 43-101. |
