I've been burned also. If I have them . At the beginning of the year. Many times I like to take gains to lock up profits. That gives me the leverage to take bigger risks later on. previous discussion. If it was a widely traded stock. Writng the call option or buying the put could have helped . Squeezing out some premium or selling the stock at a specific price at a later date..
