<<Now on to watch Leno, he's hosting Jeff Garcia tonight.>. Let me know what Jeff said:) <<The old McNabb is a superior athlete to Garcia,"" No question .I feel if McNabb had not hit this wall of injuries in could he well could have ended his career on an John Elway level. He was tracking Elway's carrer almost to the letter until all this began to happen. He was an Elway proto-type. BTW, i was mystified why ACLs can occur so oft when nothing severe seemed to happen. So i asked my Doctor and learned thisinjury can occur with a simple mistep. Was thinkinh of horses a bit, and how one one misstep can cause havoc. I didn't even know where the ACL was, so he showed me and a can realize now why it is the bane of football players. The ACL supports the weight of the body at the knee, that is why when McNabb tried to get up he immediately collapsed. It used to be that an ACL torn was it, the end--career over. But the technology then reacked a point that they could repair and with extreme rehab work comeback. It is my understanding Westbrook missed a year a Villanova from an ACL injury, but i do not know if severity varies, say from sprain to torn. But whatever McNabb's ACL injury was a full blown tear. i told him how McNabb was moving at the time, he was just running to get out of bounds and one could see a misstep that swung is body weight sidewats, and the Doctor said that is the classic movement the sets up an ACL ripping, that is, it a sideways force that can tear an ACL, in someone that is prone to a tear. Knees are different people are wired differently, that is sometimes one has steel cable strength, and they are very unlikely to have a knee blow out, or an ACL. i saw Favre take a hit, you coould see is leg bend weirdly then snap back. People thought this was the one that finally put Favre out of action. But when they did an MRI the doctors were stunned to see no damage and said his knees were like steel cables, the kond you rarely see except in competitive swimmers(that because the kick action in swimming builds extraordinarily tough knees) So maybe players with NFL ambitions should use swimming as an alternative sport:)(just a notion) On learning that it ACL is responsible for supporting all the weight of the body above it cast more doubt on McNabbs recovery. Remind there is one player that came back from not one, but two ACL injuries--that being Terry Allen, running back for Vikings and Redskins in his career. And Carson Palmer, QB for Bengals came all the way back from an ACL, an in less than a years time. But every case surely varies and the success of surgery is not a guarantee. But then look at Joe Namath, he was NEVER the same after his ACL(but that was since progress had been advanced in procedures). And Culpepper we know hasn't made it back yet. Fact is it has ONLY been 10weeks since this injury, but perhaps the limp is expected to be gone in 10 weeks time--i know nothing. Max |
