Totally agree Andrew. We have a house guest tonight here, who doesn't like to "talk politics" and that she certainly doesn't think like I do....whatever that is...
Was quite polite about it, and when she told me she was a Democrat, I told her I knew. She looked quite startled, and wondered how I knew. Easy, says I. Democrats never want to talk about substantial matters, because they either can't, or don't want to admit that they don't really have anything else, but don't like the particular person. And then can't tell anyone why.....
Of course, it was a "friendly talk".... So after dinner, I told the two of them, they were free to join us in watching the State of the Union speech, but they didn't have to feel obligated. Interestingly, they both came in, and watched.
She was quite surprised I agree with her on a couple of issues that seemed to get attention on the floor....<gg> And EXTRA startled was she when GWB not only said nice things about Pelosi once, but went out of his way to do so the 2nd time....She thought that was "nice" of him to do that. Mentioned to her that that was one of the reasons I thought he was doing the best job anyone could, and under the most terrible of circumstances. My guess is she has NEVER watched a whole speech GWB has made. (And sometimes, I've got to admit, it was hard to do for me too...) BUT NOT TONIGHT. He was great!
My husband just couldn't make himself listen to Webb...but I forced myself to do it, because I had already mentioned to her, we here on SI, do listen to several sides of issues, not just something that matches our own thoughts.
It was a good night. |
