The job in Iraq is to avert a regional war ten times worse the the one we have already been stupid enough to launch in Iraq and to find some way to limit the damage of the civil war that is already well underway in Iraq. The job in Iraq is to recognize that our failed attempts at a military solution are worse than fruitless - they are a central part of the problem. The job is to develop a diplomatic capability that we destroyed as a way for Bush burn our bridges to prevent any who had a better idea from turning us away from his military unilateralism.
