The GSMA has set the specs for a mass market WCDMA handset and invited the handset manufacturers to bid for the contract. This handset is expected to help speed up the adoption of WCDMA by bringing the low-end price point to around $100. Qualcomm currently supplies 3 out of the 4 finalists for the contract.

We wont know if the volumes on this handset will be big until the the individual operators begin placing orders.....however, at the very least, the list of participating operators is pretty impressive. WCDMA has yet to make much of a dent on the pre-pay market, and I'm hoping the opening up of the sub-$100 handset market can change that.
