I think the CL contract for the current month has been around far longer.

I don't know exactly how far out the contracts are traded. Offhand I'd guess the end of 2012; that would give the Physical a lot more time to build liquidity.

Then as well it may not be well-known as available. Finally, just as you say, it's less liquid (so far).

I think it will catch up. I don't know about now but when the Dow Futures started they weren't very liquid.
