What does franchise limits have to do with it? If they didn't limit the franchises the new franchises would still be MLB. And the MLB would be just as dominate (even if the individual teams had slightly less income each).

By limiting the number of franchises, you are creating a limited edition product. In the UK and AU, even mid sized cities have professional soccer teams that compete with the teams from the larger cities. Instead of people in Liverpool or Manchester hopping a train to London to watch a game, they can watch their own local team. Here, however, its rare to have more than one major league franchise per state in a particular sport. Large states like Texas and CA have more than one but most states just have the one team. So what's wrong with Columbus, OH or Sacramento, or San Antonio or Portland, OR or Hartford, Conn or Orlando. Those cities are large enough to support an NFL team......why are there no franchises in those cities?

Limiting the franchises insures better attendance in the existing franchises, higher ticket prices and better coverage on tv. So that forces Columbus residents to go to Cleveland or Cincinnati if they want to see major league games.

Again, you are the free market guy.......I shouldn't have to explain this to you.
