Re: PAYGO

ENDLESS DEFICIT SPENDING is a *much SURER* way of "making government bigger", in that it is a GUARANTEED way to make government bigger.

At least with PAYGO budgeting rules there is SOME (albeit: small) restraint on the growth of government.

A Constitutional amendment establishing a requirement for annual (or bi-annual) Balanced Federal Budgets (perhaps with a 'safety loophole' providing an exception for declared Wars, or Presidentially declared national emergencies...) would provide for the only SURE restraint against Big Government's growth, however.

Furthermore, anyone who (like Big Government enabler Pete DuPont) has the temerity to falsely claim that "PAYGO budget rules are a sneaky way of making government bigger" is ACTUALLY SAYING two things:

1) Our government will NEVER cut spending.

2) Our government is, therefore, dysfunctional in it's current decrepit state... and thus LONG OVERDUE for major, STRUCTURAL reform.

An EXCELLENT ARGUMENT for the Balanced Budget Amendment!

So... if Pete DuPont were SERIOUS about bringing about a smaller federal government, he would be out on the stump PROMOTING major structural reform of the government --- such as the Balanced Budget Amendment.

But, of course, he is *not serious* about reducing federal spending, and reducing the size of government --- BECAUSE HE IS A PROMOTER OF BIG, BLOATED GOVERNMENT, and likes things the way they are --- so he is AGAINST the Balanced Budget Amendment (& against the weaker, much less effective, PAYGO budget rules, too.)

No surprises!

He WANTS more Big Government.
