Ummm...do you have any evidence to support that conclusion? "Approaching life as a cash flow proposition" is a relatively recent economic phenomena even in the US while the affluence of the US (vs the rest of the world) is a long standing fact.

Most places on the planet where ordinary people don't have access to bank lending are extremely poor.

Hilarious! Most places on the planet where people have never flown on an airplane are extremely poor. Does it follow that taking airplane rides made/makes/will make us rich?
