Raising taxes generally a democrat ideal.

Cutting tax loopholes and targeted benefits is quite compatible with Republican/conservative or libertarian ideals.

Closing a special targets tax benefit isn't the same as raising marginal rates. Its closer to (even if not the same as) eliminating a direct subsidy from the government.

Raising taxes on high wage earners isn't reasonably construed as "limiting an organizations ability to respond to market changes"

Really?

Nice way to twist my words around.

What I actually said was

"Limiting a subsidy or targeted tax break isn't reasonably construed as "limiting an organizations ability to respond to market changes"

In fact such target tax breaks reduce the ability of organizations to respond, because they favor one type of response and disfavor another.

IMO, government should, as much as possible, get out of the business of providing favors for some actions, and punishments for others through the use of the income tax code. I'm not saying that its impossible for reasonable people to disagree, but its hardly reasonable to see this view as being similar to "taxes should be raised".
