I know! "Whatever" replaces F___ You when the use of profanity is restricted, as in talking to a parent. I've gotten to the point where the word "whatever" pisses me off more than the profanity itself. I told Liz's 15 year old grandson "I can't WAIT until you turn 18 and it's legal for someone to beat the snot out of you for being such a wise-ass!". He just gave me that stupid, empty look and flipped me the bird!
