You aren't reducing freedom.

Limiting (or better yet) eliminating highly specific deductions is a good idea precisely because people respond fluidly. Better to let them make up their own minds on the inherent advantages of doing one thing or the other, rather than try to push on idea on them by favoring it over other plans through the tax code.

Because people respond fluidly, favoring medical insurance over other forms of compensation results in more money going to medical insurance, which results in more money going to medical care, which is the same as saying more demand for medical care, so you get higher prices.
