In general, I don't like the notion of dollars flowing from the state for federal taxes and then flowing back to the state in Federal payments to the state. It seems inefficient to me.

Precisely why it is negative sum. Some of it gets used up along the way. The only way it makes sense is if you think redistribution between the states has some merit. I don't no why that would be the case.

However, that's a different class of health care. It's not truly health care at all, it's cosmetic.

Irrelevant. It is still surgery. The issue is that surgery can be cheap and safe.

Do you run around to each doctor in the area and scope out the charges, then go to each hospital and scope out their charges, then you go to the anesthesiologist and figure out his charge.....create some little cost/benefit/value table to make a decision? I think not. Would you be attracted by an ad that said "One hour angioplasties", no appointments necessary?

More to the point, you can hardly even do it. No one will give you prices. They are not concerned with it. Your insurance is expected to have already negotiated a reasonable deal for whatever level of service your Dr decides you need.

The adds for tit & eye surgery spend half the time telling you how their particular Diplomat of the bla bla Association is actually the most experienced in the Galaxy and performs more surgeries than all his competitors combined. Do you seriously think you would want a lousy Dr with a laser in your eye?
