There is subprime and there is real subprime.

Meaning, sub-prime that is a little under prime, then a range toward the middle.

Below that, there is worse and worse.

So far, it appears that the companies blowing up are in the bottom range. These loans would have gone bad in any year except 1999.

Wa-Mu and Countrywide have more of the middle. Countrywide has hedged out much of thier risk.
