Golden is more "mountains" than either Fort Collins or Loveland. Both of these cities are somewhat like Denver, in that they are near what we call the "foothills", or the gateway to the higher mountains. Central City is, of course, well up in the mountains.

Pricey? Compared to Malibu? Dirt cheap. Compared to some parts of Mississippi or New Orleans? Very pricey. In truth, this isn't known to be an inexpensive place to live, all factors plugged in.
