More on Gigalabs - I have been reading their home page from time to time over the course of the day. They claim that the latency on their GigaStar 3000 switch is 750 nanoseconds - more indirect support that sub-microsecond latencies are possible. I have also looked at ATM switches today - 155mbps with latencies of "< 10 microseconds". I have the feeling that latency may be more important in ATM switches, because of he smaller frame size, higher overhead and higher CPU utilization.
