What were they?

I coded the basic Huffman algorithm as a graduate school project and later adapted it for a file transfer protocol in a terminal emulator for VT52/VT100 terminals. I also developed a simple lossless compression protocol for use in compressing telephone logs in the days when some phone switch manufacturers had to make do with a few 14MB data cartridge drives.

These are certainly not in the ballpark with today's codecs but are sufficient for me to have familiarity with the concepts.

Hey, if you say so!!! LOL!! Let's see.. XM is 30% more efficient, yet SIRI has a full compliment of Audio programming and SIRI states they are launching 3 Video Channels while XM has ZERO..

SIRI "states" a lot of things (as do you).

But you can't get away from the fact that neither company is using HM now, both should get about the same percentage gain (well, some would argue SIRI cannot without interfering with existing channels) and XM already has five or six more music channels and 40 more channels in all. Lee Abrams has publicly stated he expects to get to about 200 channels in all with "technology advances" (which can only be HM) and I believe you'll see that XM has this functionality before Sirius does, if XM's current engineering lead holds.
