Actually, Kerry won big in Iowa partly because Green Beret Jim Rassman appeared willing to tell the story of how Kerry saved his life in combat. That proved to Kerry and his people that the combat hero angle would make up for his past dovishness and enable him to take on the "war president" Bush, who had ironically dodged the draft and gone AWOl from the Air Guard in 1971, then lied ab out it in his autobiography.

I don't think Kerry changed at all. In fact I think a lot of democrats are almost as unfair toward Kerry as the Republicans are, and I don't understand why. But in any case, this has driven Kerry out of the race, something we may all regret unless Gore runs.

The real liar about his military record was not Kerry, not at all. It was Bush. Kerry has never lied about his combat record in any way, shape or form. Even his Cambodia speech story is proven fact. He was in Cambodia or right on the border exactly when he said he was.
