The idea that the Soviets invaded eastern Europe in the 1940s is not supported by the facts.

The Soviet Union did invade eastern Europe in the 1940's and yes, they were pursuing the Nazis. The Nazis must have been paper tigers too if the paper tiger Soviets pushed them out of eastern Europe, I suppose.

This is why they couldn't resist the result of the Yalta and Potsdam conferences even though they didn't want to be under the Soviet yoke.

Sure eastern Europe was ruined by the war. So was western Europe.

Your comment on western Europe is not relevant. The western European countries wanted to be tied to the west.

So did eastern Europe.

OK, try it on this way, you argue from a set of notions that were out of date in the 50's and have been out of date ever since. A part of that set of notions is that the US democracy and freedom is in some way superior to the European style of democracy and freedom. Patently false.

I still don't think this addresses my original negative comments about Europe. I wasn't criticizing Europe's style of democracy or freedom so much as Europe's history of appeasing anti-democratic, anti-freedom tyrannical movements and thus losing their democracy and freedom.

Whatever the European "style of democracy and freedom" is, they seem to have not been able to defend and preserve it w/o outside help (4 times by my count in the past century).
