Carter gets a lot of blame for the blow-up in the Middle East, but real the fault lies with those who didn't want peace, and those who wanted carter to lose to Ronald Reagan in the election. Also, unless you believe Carter's hostage rescue mission was sabotaged, it was just bad luck. If Carter had reescued the hostages as planned he would have been seen as a great hero and probably re-elected. There are times when failure is not an option. When you are the most powerful country in the world, getting beat by Iran is not an option. Israel could have saved those hostages, hell Canada got some of them out, and frankly Canada has been unable to come to it's own defense since Diefenbaker was PM.....
