Ichy,

My (Canadian) brother-in-law got into an argument about this with my son. I ended the conversation by pointing out that any contracts Canadians have with Cuba's communists are as permanent as the ones Americans had with Batista's regime (think about the 'Chinese'oil contracts).

How would he feel about his investments being nationalized and sold to Americans?

If a couple of years from now a non-Communist takes over - how friendly do you think they will be to Canada or China for subsidizing their gulags?

Now having said that - I never understand how we could 'engage' China and the USSR, but refused it with South Africa or Cuba.

We should either engage everyone - or consistently treat all dictatorships as pariah regimes.
