Practical Question for personal energy efficiency .....

Ok, I want some input from everybody ..

I absolutely hate my space heating and domestic hot water
system .. Both are oil fired with attendant standby loses ..
ie The water in the boiler stays a certain temp wether any
zones in the house are asking for heat and my heavily insulated
hot H20 tank also maintains a certain temperature .. these
standby demands are year round .. I've invested in a more
energy efficient burner, but we're still consuming about
1200 gallons of home heating oil @ 2.89 per gallon plus the
electric for the circulating pumps etc .. The heating oil
always has a small residual smell/stink that I hate plus
the dust etc etc .. So, I want to switch to something else
that's more efficient and off fossil fuels if possible ..

I'm in coastal CT so we have a few months in winter that
are going to require reliable heat ie daily temps from
low 20's to mid 30's for about 50 days or so ..
Solar is out as is wind or small scale hydro ..

I'm thinking a ground source heat pump feeding my existing
base board hot water heating system or I've wondered if
either electric or propane fired on demand hot water
heater/s could function as the heat source for my space
heating requirements ??

We keep the house cool .. 62 degrees all the time ..
Oh, and my electric rate is 0.14 / kwh ..

If I could use an on demand electric heater ( more than one ? )
for space heating and domestic hot water I would ..
My heating oil bill would buy about
25000 kwhs of power at my current
cost for electricity .. Whatcha all think ??

Triff ..
