Tim, the straight facts say the gap is growing. Its only when some rightwing economist manipulates the facts that it doesn't look like the gap is growing.

Its not improperly manipulated data, its different data (wages, total compensation, total income, consumption, counting or not counting government transfers etc.), and different elements that confound the data (for example a not insignificant amount of corporate income has shifted to being reported on individual tax returns, so data from income taxes probably exaggerates the actual growth of income for those "at the top").

What is about poor people that you don't like

I have nothing against poor people.

Then why are you unconcerned with the growing disparity between the rich and the poor in this country?

1 - There is no connection between being unconcerned about a growing disparity of income, and not liking poor people. This point is esp. strong when a broad spectrum of society has seen at least some real economic benefit (which is the case in the United States).

2 - I am not entirely unconcerned about an increase in inequality isn't a major concern for me. Absolute poverty would be a far more important concern, as would any great increase in equality cause by a reduced level of income and wealth by those at the bottom (or more generally by the non rich). But absolute poverty isn't getting rich, and the poor are not broadly speaking getting poorer. The change is that the rich are getting richer. Not being very upset about the fact that the wealthy are doing very well hardly equates with not caring about poor people, let alone with disliking them.

Maybe not but denying there is a problem is the first step to the begrudging.

Accurately accessing the problem, and not exaggerating isn't the 1st step to begrudging the poor. Not getting angry or sad at the fact that the rich are doing will has no connection to begrudging the poor a decent life. In fact strong economic intervention against the wealthy is likely to decrease the chances of the poor living a better life.
