Canadians got handed a bad deal by Bush. Bush took his eye off the real war on terror in Afghanistan, didn't finish the job and has now dumped it on several allies. We do have 10,000 or so troops there but they're probably just guarding Karzi, not out killing terrorists. Failing to get Bin Laden is a huge breach of faith. That was Bush's first promise after 9-11 and he broke it.
Bush has also ignored other Al Qaida hot spots like Yemen, Kenya, Indonesia, and has not put enough pressure on Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Iran had nothing to do with Al Qaida or 9-11 but now Bush is trying to pick a war with them, even though they are friendly with the Maliki government.
Bush's Iraq debacle is just what the terrorists wanted, a local opportunity to go across open borders to Iraq, disguise themselves as locals (no problem, they look alike) and take shots at American soldiers, as well as US allies, getting plenty of real-life terrorist training. They have been very effective unfortunately even though they are a small number in terms of the actual violence in Iraq, about 5% of the whole.
We are now in danger of losing the broader war on terror, and losing Iraq, and we are paying much too high a price for the limited progress we have made since Tora Bora. All in all it's a real disaster and it's all because Bush-cheney won't listen to anyone who knows what they're talking about. |
