many European democracies do the same thing. The constant refrain from the left, when selling health care, is the "lower infant and elder mortality" in Europe. First off, those two figures are not a good criteria for judging health care. Secondly, Demographics make a big difference in both of them. [Blacks and Hispanics have a shorter life span, and you can't get Blacks and Hispanics to use pre-natal services at the same rate as whites no matter what you do.] Then add in the different ways various countries figure infant mortality and the US is ahead of them.
