Excellent point.

Charity is the act of giving your from your spare or extra stuff. Some think it is best when it involves a personal sacrifice. Although there is a societal need for the consideration and support of those in need, welfare, financial aid, government incentives, entitlements etc. can't rightfully be considered charity.

Some people have very confusing ideas about charity. Genuine charity is one of the most mature human acts possible. As such, it is legitimate only when it is freely given without coercion or expectations by the giver for benefit beyond that realized by the receiver.

It always amuses me when indebted college students who are dependent on financial aid and/or parent support contribute to charity. The act is not genuine. If they have extra money they have an obligation to lessen their burden on others. Otherwise they are only increasing the burden on their supporters, without consideration, which is the opposite of charity. The system parents/government has been charitable to them and the funds are obligated to be spent as intended. After they have given (from parent/government support) how do they meet their obligations at college??? They must get more from their support sources. They haven't been charitable in giving money away that they have borrowed on other other pretenses, they have been corrupt for some self serving purpose.

I like your three Cs. Charity and Compulsion are not Compatible.
