Really? Was it yes or no? I read the entire post.
Well, it all stems from this post by you:
But Elroy, YOU'RE the one that keeps saying we've "won" and can now leave! Which is it, bub?
And it is both. We won, and we can now leave, if we choose.
You didn't ask me what I think we should do until later. As I've said, I have a profession, and it is not population control in the ME. I have no idea what is the best option for the US in Iraq to achieve the goal of stabilizing the country.
But....I would argue that PRECIPITOUSLY LEAVING is very high in the self interest of the US, and letting Sunni and Shia descend into civil war pretty much eliminates the ME Islamofascist (for lack of a better term) threat to the US until their war ends, which might be a few decades (or a few weeks, who knows?). Once it does end, if the winner is not to our liking, we can easily invade and destroy the winner (something we are very good at). On the other hand STAYING THE GB COURSE is the humanitarian thing to do, if you beleive our departure will result in a ME Sunni-Shia war.
Strangely enough, usually the left wing wants to leave for "stop the war!" reasons (wrong, leaving would probably result in massive loss of human life, albeit Arabic) and the right wing wants to stay for "maintain US interest" reasons (also wrong, leaving would probably cause the Muslims to fight each other for years).
As far as myslelf is concerned, if a ME war erupts, when Kuwait falls to some Muslim invader, that's the sign it might be time to get out of the UAE. As long as Kuwait is still around, the UAE is probably an OK place to hang out. |
