Peter, There is no reason to give special attention to New Orleans by the federal government regardless of who is President, or which party is in control of Congress. The majority of citizens of New Orleans sat on their butts while Katrina was blowing, and flooding, the city, because they were unable to think for themselves and get the hell out of town, while wholesale looting was going on. The Mayor of New Orleans, and the Governor of Louisiana dropped the ball, and did nothing to help their citizens, so why should the rest of the nation care about it when places like Florida, Mississippi, and Texas carry the burden of most of the rebuilding of damage done by hurricanes, Oklahoma and Kansas rebuild from tornadoes, and California takes care of it's earthquakes? Federal help is minimal in such cases. Why should New Orleans get special treatment? Because it is a den of sin, and filth? Because it was built on shaky land in the first place? Because they elect incompetent politicians?
As far as I am concerned, they can just leave it like it is, and let it rot back into a muddy delta as it once was. |
