Alto Ventures to drill 20 holes at Beardmore projects

2007-01-31 09:30 ET - News Release

Mr. Richard Mazur reports

ALTO STARTS DRILLING BEARDMORE GOLD PROJECTS

Alto Ventures Ltd. is starting the 2007 winter diamond drilling program on its projects in the Beardmore Geraldton gold belt. In the past this prolific gold belt has produced over four million ounces of gold at grades that are comparable with the Red Lake gold mining camp in Northwestern Ontario.

A minimum of 20 drill holes are planned to test several targets on the company's Cote-Archie Lake, Mud Lake and Greenoaks projects. At Cote-Archie Lake, previous work by Alto has identified a new major shear structure. The mineralization on the property includes gold grades up to 11.2 grams per tonne across a one-metre chip sample and 17.3 g/t gold in grab samples. The gold is associated with shear structures that trend parallel to those hosting the Leitch mine. The Leitch mine is located five kilometres to the southwest of Alto's property and has produced 860,000 ounces of gold at a grade of 0.92 ounce per ton prior to closing in 1968.

At the Mud Lake property, a major auriferous shear zone has been identified for over six kilometres along strike. Thirteen gold occurrences are exposed in surface trenches and sampling of these has returned gold assays as high as 50 g/t in grab samples (see news reported in Stockwatch Nov. 27, 2006). Previous drilling on the property was limited and no drilling has tested these gold occurrences.

The Greenoaks project is located seven kilometres northwest of Mud Lake and at the west end of the Hercules property operated by Kodiak Exploration Ltd. Gold at Greenoaks has been found on surface along a 400-metre segment of a west-northwest-trending shear structure that has been injected with gold-bearing quartz veins. Previous drilling has intersected high-grade gold mineralization including 1.2 ounces per ton (41 g/t) gold across five feet (1.5 metres).

Management is very excited about the Beardmore drilling program as it is testing new gold targets in a past-producing, high-grade gold belt. Even though readily accessible by the Trans-Canada Highway, this belt has been forgotten until last year when significant drill results including 15.59 g/t gold across 16.6 metres were released from the Hercules property (see Kodiak Exploration news reported in Stockwatch Sept. 18, 2006). Currently the belt is experiencing rejuvenated exploration activity and Alto is well positioned with its three projects to participate in this resurgence.
