I'm not sure I'm in favor of that. National Service, and certainly a volunteer army is higher caliber than a drafted one.

I've been around CCC-like projects in my career, and a lot of it seems like make-work to me. We had to come up with jobs for these kids that slept in a good bed and got three meals out in the woods. I don't think anything they did was particularly useful, no offense meant to anyone, that's just my experience.
