Just read the article-----thinking about people of varying ages------$20,000.00 is the norm for pre-school now in our area. (And this is not for an elite pre-school.)

A full tank of gas costs twice what it cost several years ago.Have a friend who sold her SUV to cut the budget for gas for commuting and ferreting the children to and fro.

Utilites almost double in 2 years. Home repairs, essential and non essential, take dollars.

A modest 2 bedroom cape cod in Arlington, Va. close into D.C. goes for a million dollars now. That pushes people into suburbs and long commutes. County Taxes continue to increase annually in Northern Virginia on homes. If you are in a condo environment then the costs for repairs and maintenance get passed onto the condo dwellers.

Most homeowners are not owners but essentially renters as they haven't lived in their homes long enough to have paid for the homes----ie. mortgages.

So what I am I saying-----think a lot of families are overextended.
