Fox Poll: Giuliani Leads McCain By 12 Points

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani jumped to a double-digit lead over Arizona Sen. John McCain in a new poll of prospective 2008 candidates for the White House.

Giuliani is favored by 34 percent of the self-identified Republicans in the Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll. McCain placed second among GOP hopefuls with 22 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who has yet to form an exploratory committee, captured third with 15 percent.

All other prospective Republican candidates, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, registered in single digits.

Among Democrats, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton holds a huge lead over Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina. Clinton was backed by 43 percent of self-identified Democrats in the poll. Obama took second with 15.

Edwards captured 12 percent support with former Vice President Al Gore, who repeatedly says he is not running for office, receiving 11 percent in the poll. No other candidates in the crowded Democratic field received double-digit support.

The Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll of 900 registered voters was conducted Jan. 30-31 and has a three-point margin of error
