Opposing escalation during a war only makes sense if

1 - Your opposing escalation to nukes.

2 - Your opposing escalation to things like carpet bombing or general targeting of civilians.

3 - The war is a "phony war" with almost not real fighting and your opposing actually starting a real war.

4 - You opposing attacking new opponents when the new opponents aren't really crucial to the current conflict.

or

5 - You don't want to win the war.

It doesn't make sense to oppose reinforcing the force levels in Iraq, unless your idea is get them out now. I realize that probably is your idea, but then you should just say so. This whole "no escalation" argument is silly.
