Abu Dhabi is both an emirate (there are 7 in the UAE) and a city. The city is on an island, but 300 meters off the mainland. What are they putting all those buildings on an island? Why not put it in the middle of Abu Dhabi? How far offshore is the island? Why is the city named for some father? I don't know. The middle of Abu Dhabi is a desert.... Probably less than 1/8th of a mile. I don't know.
