I think Zarquawis stated strategy paid dividends. Al quaeda in iraq fanned the flames of sectarianism and replaced nationalism with sectarian/tribalism with an islamist flavor. I am not sure if iraq can survive as one country anymore. I am also not sure that the new modern shiaa/sunni emnity wont break out elsewhere in the arab world. After all saudi oil workers are shiaa, hizbolla is shiaa in the heart of sunni arabia, hamas has shiaa support and syria is in that camp though most folks there are sunni.
And there is the historic rivalry between persians and arabs, between kurds and turks, between kurds and arabs, between modernists and primitive islam. Hell some folks here think clinton to be our smartest president but i bet even Bill couldnt figure this all out and come up with a coherent policy. I say cut and run--you cant worry about what you cant control and at this point as we try to put out the flames on one hand, our presence seems only to be adding fuel to the fire.
