Same in Detroit and St. Louis, but it was still a novelty in NY. The win over USSR solidified the first expansion and paved the way for the sport to go nationwide. It became the hottest ticket in town in places where nobody even knew the sport existed a few years earlier. When Gordie Howe signed a contract with the WHL along with his 2 sons, Mark and Marty, he talked about his share of the one million dollar contract being more than he made in his first 20 years as a pro. His rookie year he was paid $350 and a team jacket. They stiffed him for the jacket! LOL!
