But if you wish to consider it some sort of enlightened, democratic, Amish-style pacifist, religiously free, liberal Denmark of the Mideast in which an effective and freely elected government deals peacefully with its neighbors, be my guest.
Iran in the hands of the religiously fanatic whackjobs is a danger to humanity. It is not peaceful but aggressive, it is not tolerant but oppressive, it is sexist, racist, virulently antisemitic, and led by a cadre of individuals who are in my estimation mentally ill, especially Ahmadinejad, because they are in the clutches of a religious cult.
And while I agree that the Iranian people are by and large not in tune with these whackjobs, they are responsible for allowing them to guide their nation. They are the Good Iranian equivalent of Good Germans, who allowed their country to be hijacked by the insane. The Iranian people are just as responsible for their government's actions as the individuals in government. |
