Also keep in mind many who own the second home on the lake, ski resort, beach, etc. also have a boat, or luxury car with the related carrying costs (loan, property tax, upkeep) think if times become difficult they can always sell to tide them over. So the best time to buy a lake house is in the fall. Good luck as I understand all about keeping the significant other happy, plus its nice to have a special retreat.
