Bob Bernard has died. The following is from "The May Report," an email newsletter originating in Chicago:
February 3, 2007 The May Report: 02/03/2007: Bulletin: Some very sad news: Bob Bernard died at 8:30pm Friday night, February 2, 2007 at Hinsdale Hospital, possibly of a heart attack or brain aneurysm Editor and publisher: ron@themayreport.com, ronaldmay@aol.com, 773-525-3944 Ron May here. I wanted to get confirmation of this sad and important news before printing anything. Al Wasserberger called me at 7:37pm tonight, Saturday. He was looking to confirm a rumor that he had heard from David Weinstein that Bob Bernard passed away in the last day. I had heard nothing about it. I immediately started the process of trying to confirm this. My brother spoke to an ex-marchFIRST guy he knows who said that he had heard the same thing just today. So that made two people who had heard it. A few other people gave me ideas on how to find out. I called the Tribune obit. section but no one was around. I looked in the TMR archives and left messages for a couple of people whose names were mentioned. I got their numbers from 411. Nothing was on the internet. Then I got a brilliant idea. Send an email to Flip. He just called me at 8:44pm Chicago time. Flip, I really want to thank you for getting back to me on this. Yes, sadly the rumor is true. Flip found out last night from Brian Weber and Ed Szofer, close associates and friends of Bob. Bob died of either a heart attack or an aneurysm at 8:30pm Friday night at Hinsdale Hospital. Flip found out last night so he did not know about any funeral arrangements. This comes as a bit of a shock because Bob had some heart problems a few years ago but things seemed to be better now. Bob was somewhat high strung in the good old days, but Al Wasserberger told me that he seemed much calmer in recent times. But we never know when our time will come . Now is the time to express our condolences to Bob's family and friends and to pray that his soul may rest in eternal peace. Personally, I am quite saddened. I have known Bob since 1983 and actually worked with him as a recruiter. This is before he started Whittman-Hart. He was only 21 years old at the time. He was born in 1962, Flip told me. The night before Bob left the firm we worked at, he invited me to spend the night at his house in the southern burbs. He must have felt sorry for me. We slept in his room in two bunk beds. Flip also mentioned in the few minutes that we talked the name of Peter Pond. I will have more on my conversation with Flip for you at a later time which is more appropriate. I know that many people will want to attend a funeral and/or wake so I hope that we can get that information for you as soon as possible. In the meantime, I would like to extend my personal condolences and I hope condolences on the behalf of the entire Chicago technology community --- and we are a community --- to Bob's family and friends. Bob lived a full and meaningful life and he touched so many of us with his passion and enthusiasm. _____________________ End |
