"We need more oil companies to increase competition in the oil industry." Not going to happen. The capital costs are extremely high, the margins are not so great and the possibility of peak oil soon means they might not be able to get enough oil to make any margin possible. Big costs, big risks, low margin. Not a mix that is going to attract new companies.
