We need more oil companies to increase competition in the oil industry."

Not going to happen. The capital costs are extremely high, the margins are not so great and the possibility of peak oil soon means they might not be able to get enough oil to make any margin possible. Big costs, big risks, low margin. Not a mix that is going to attract new companies.

There are plenty of options. How about rather than build oil refinery, exploration, downstream infrastructure, the new American oil company will build a huge militia, and go take over Brunei? Boom, loads of oil, and not not much exploration necessary - they already know where it is.

It could be called Pirate Oil Company.
