I was just reflecting on Apple's negative campaign against Vista. I think MSFT needs to turn the negative into a positive by stressing the flexibility and open architecture of the pc market. You can easily upgrade power suppliess, graphics cards, audio cards, and all the other componenents of your computer. Once everyone upgrades memory to at least 1 GB, it will change their entire perception of the internet. Why go out and spend $1700 on a new HP touchscreen with Vista when you can add a 512 MB RAM to an existing machine for $50 plus $150 for the Vista Upgrade. I wouldn't spend an extra $1500.

Part of the point is good and bad. Vista is going to sell great because it provides so much more capability through the new software. However, it might not sell as many new boxes if people just upgrade their existing computers. I think the theory suggesting that all 400 million pc users are going to buy new computers is crazy. I will use the chance to get rid of all my really old and broken down computers. However, I will keep all the more current ones that I upgrade.

Consumers should really think about PC's vs notebooks too, since they are so much more durable. I was looking at the picture in picture technology when I was looking at Gateway computers. The tv picture was disgraceful, using the Windows Media Center. It would be better to buy a flat screen tv and hook up a pc to the flatscreen. However, convergence between computers and video is finally taking place.

I finally bit the bullet for $75 to have a new wireless adapter added to my pc so I could get back onto the net with my other computer. The only bad thing is that I realized that I have to pay for the second installation of Vista. Don't add it to any boxes you don't need to right now.
