Maurice, the reason employees were so put out as you say, was simply because of the loss of stock options that subsequently went out of sight.

Isn't the difficulty mostly in producing the ASICs rather than the phones?

I am not an EE, but I imagine you are right. However, the ASIC's are only one part of the entire system. You can't discount that the problem of implementing CDMA in the handset is still a major undertaking. Others on this board will be able to answer this question better than I.
