I agree with the consensus that the Iraqi's have to figure it out themselves. Maybe we should broker a peaceful (as possible) ethnic cleansing.

That said I wonder if part of this new crackdown will involve turning the Shia loose against the Sunni which is sort of what Maliki has been calling for.

The trouble with fighting insurgents though is they melt into the population and come out at night to try to kill you. If the crackdown is successful I bet they simply wait it out.
