It is obvious to anyone familiar with RNA virus genetics that resistance to all current PIs will develop. And if the resistant strains are distributed in the population a given PI will eventually be useless. Currently the virus will be repressed until the resistant variants emerge. If the infecting virus is already PI resistant then the PI will simply be ineffective immediately.
The only unknown factor is how long treatment with a specific PI will stay effecive for a person infected with nonresistant virus and how long it will take until the resistant strains spread into the general population.
