Midland, something special about this year:

While I did identify some indications of tax-loss selling in the charts of the stocks I picked, this year the decline seemed to end earlier in December.

Looking back, the optimal time to buy would have been circa Dec. 15, rather than circa Dec. 27. Almost all of my meager outperformance of the RUT this year happened in the last few days of December. After January 1, my portfolio more or less tracked the RUT with no further gains.

So I don't know, maybe it was just my picks that did something atypical, or maybe the January Effect this year was more of a Last-Half-of-December Effect.
