Thanks EC, very good.

But take cars for instance. Our inability to compete is due to our own stupidity and greed. GM and ford were so used to telling the market what was available and being greedy with their huge SUV's and trucks (where they made the most money) they opened the way for the Japanese advancements in fuel efficient cars.

Also, GM and ford built one car for everyone while Japan built different cars for different countries. In New Zealnd everyone has these little flat bed trucks I have never one seen here-lol.

GM and Ford did the same thing in the 60's and 70's (will they ever learn-lol?). Toyota, et al and VW had good fuel efficient cars. The only two fuel efficient cars GM and Ford produced were the chevette and falcon--both junk.

Plus consumer reports alway rated Japanese cars way above American cars for quality.

I actually worked for the Ford manufacturing plant in Milpitos in the late 60's as a car inspector at the end of the assembly line. We were instructed to not examine the cars too carefully!
