You are not talking about the planet,...you are talking about yourself and your style of living. The planet has survived far worse than global warming and could care less about the human species.
Life will continue to exist after we burn up all the carbon on the planet, but it may not sit in front of a computer, drive a car, be surrounded by electronic gizmos, and sit in the lap of luxury like most of us in the technologically advanced world.
What are you willing to give up to allow your fellow man (six billion of which want what you have right now) to rise to your economic status? Your second car, all but one of your phones, all but one of your tvs and computers, all your vacations, travelling to see the world, your time off, all but $4000 of what you currently live on, your retirement, the size of your house reduced to 500 square feet or less, your gas allowance reduced to one gallon per week, etc., etc., etc? For the rest of the world to come up to our level of consumption and economic status, you and I are going to have to give up a lot.
The cold war has been replaced by the war for scarce resources. The 6 billion without resources want a big piece of our pie,....what are you gonna give them? |
